Welcome / Introduction

This website is for students and parents to access materials about math topics discussed in class, and to find other resources that could be helpful. Math is a wonderful subject that unfortunately a lot of people fear, but hopefully students will be able to see how math fits into their lives and see the patterns and relations that make the subject so useful.

About Me

My name is Colleen Kerr and I've always loved math - even when I didn't want to admit Joe at 10 months. Taken at a park in Dumfries on a walk with Cassie (our dog)! it as a kid. I am originally from Virginia Beach and to this day still gravitate towards the water for fun and relaxation. I went to VA Tech for my Bachelor's and Master's, and have also taken classes at NOVA and George Mason. My husband and I moved to Woodbridge in 2005 and live with our cats and dog, and son, Joseph Paul, who will be one yr old the end of June. Between family life, work life, and life in general, things are hectic around our house, but never boring!

I love teaching math and have had the opportunity to teach 7th Extended, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra I, and I've taught Algebra online with PWC Virtual High School. I chose to teach middle school because I like middle-school aged kids and think they're a lot of fun - even when they're driving adults nuts! I also really believe that a solid education in learning knowledge as well as responsibility and thinking/problem-solving skills is crucial to having a fulfulling life in school and outside of school.

Outside of work I do all I can to spend time with Joe, and at nights in "free-time", I also work with Virtual VA in putting some AP courses online, and this summer I'll be teaching Algebra I again with the Virtual High School. My husband and I also try to spend time outside when we can, or just hanging out watching Joe learn and grow.
